The contents of each set are fixed. That is deliberate: it keeps the balance between the plain bars and the richer ones, and it means the price reflects what is actually in the box.

The four plainest bars in the range. Nothing with a strong scent, nothing that needs explaining. The set to start with, and the one to give to someone whose taste you do not know.

Eight bars, Discovery

The four above, plus Activated Charcoal & Goat Milk, Kefir, Bentonite Clay & Hibiscus, Pomegranate Seed Oil and Argan.

The plain four with character added: two clarifying bars, the most saturated colour in the range, and Argan, the richest bar we make.

Twelve bars, the Full Collection

The eight above, plus Jasmine, Apricot Kernel Oil, Donkey Milk and the Laurel & Avocado shampoo bar.

If it is a gift and you are not sure: four. If it is a gift for someone who cares about what they wash with: eight. If it is for your own house, or a wedding or new-home present: twelve.

How to make a bar last

A cold-process bar holds more water than a commercial one, so it softens if it sits in a puddle. Keep the bar in use on a draining dish away from the direct spray and let it dry between uses. That alone roughly doubles how long it lasts. The spares keep well unwrapped in a drawer and will scent it lightly.

How they are made

Made at low temperature and left to cure for weeks rather than pushed through heat and pressing. The formula is calculated with a 5% superfat, so a share of the oils stays unsaponified in the finished bar. That takes longer and yields less, which is why the bars are made in small batches. Each bar is cut by hand, so weight and pattern vary slightly.

Allergens: these sets are not suitable for anyone with a tree nut allergy. Most bars contain sweet almond oil, and the shampoo bar should be treated as containing walnut, hazelnut and sesame as well. For external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes and rinse with plenty of water if it happens. Patch test on a small area first if your skin is sensitive, and stop using it if irritation occurs. Keep out of reach of children.
