Made in Türkiye

The making

Made slowly, in small batches.

The color

Turkish cotton muslin, open and layered rather than looped, gives the coverage of a bath sheet without the weight or bulk of terry.

The stripe is yarn-dyed and woven in rather than printed — a faded, washed indigo across an undyed cream ground — so it keeps its depth wash after wash.

It dries by contact, then dries itself within the hour.

The weave

Muslin is woven loosely and finished so the layers move independently, which is where the airiness comes from. Less material in contact with water means it never turns heavy, and it releases moisture into the room quickly instead of holding on to it. Absorbency comes from surface area rather than depth of pile — this is a cloth that blots rather than soaks. At roughly 193 g/m² Altea is the lightest towel we make, about a third lighter than our Airy Aegean muslin, and you feel that the moment you pick it up.

Styling

The stripe is what makes it read as more than a towel. Knotted at the shoulder it works as a cover-up; spread across a lounger it covers the whole seat; folded once it serves as a beach blanket for two. At home it hangs well enough on an open rail to be part of the room, and it packs to a fraction of what a terry bath sheet takes in a carry-on.

Frequently asked

Will the stripe fade? The yarn is dyed before it is woven, so the color runs through the thread rather than sitting on the surface. Wash cold with like colors and it holds its depth.

Is it absorbent enough to replace a terry towel? For most people, yes. Muslin blots rather than soaks — it lifts water off the skin on contact instead of storing it in a pile. What it gives up in reservoir it returns in drying time and in how little it weighs on the rail.

How fast does it dry?Quickly, which is the main argument for muslin. With so little bulk holding water, it clears a rail or a chair back in roughly an hour outdoors — handy for a pool house or a shared summer bathroom.

The Difference is in the Cotton

Aegean cotton used in Calinea Turkish towels

The Origin

Why Turkish Aegean Cotton Towels Feel Unrivaled.

Grown along Türkiye's Aegean coast, Aegean cotton is prized for its long-staple fibers and naturally smooth hand — the same qualities that make Turkish cotton towels a benchmark for softness worldwide. For Calinea, this premium cotton is the foundation of every bath towel we make.

Long-staple Turkish Aegean cotton fibers

The Fiber

Long-Staple Cotton Fibers, Built to Last.

Long-staple cotton fibers spin into smoother, stronger yarns with less bulk than standard cotton — a cleaner weave and a silkier surface that holds up wash after wash.

The Feel

Highly Absorbent, Sustainably Grown Cotton.

Aegean cotton creates plush, highly absorbent bath towels without the heaviness of standard terry cloth — sustainably grown and finished without harsh chemicals.
