The making
Made slowly, in small batches.
The color
The body is richly textured, an intricate raised weave that catches light and gives the towel depth even against a plain wall.
Along each end runs an ornate geometric border in antique gold and cream, and the fringe is knotted by hand rather than hemmed.
It reads as a decorative object more than as laundry.
The weave
Combing removes the short fibers before spinning, leaving a smoother, stronger yarn that sheds almost no lint. Rather than a flat terry pile, Santa Fe is built on a raised textured ground, so the cloth has body and grip without going heavy. It arrives with a slight crispness that gives way after two or three washes, and absorbency climbs as the finish washes out.

Styling
Mauve Stone wants clay, plaster and unglazed ceramic around it. Against a limewashed wall or a terracotta floor the gold in the border picks up the room rather than fighting it. Hang one bath towel on a wooden rail and let the fringe hang loose; the pattern does enough on its own that nothing else in the bathroom needs to be decorative. It also works as the single soft note in a cool grey room.

Bath towel or bath sheet?The bath towel (28 × 55 in / 70 × 140 cm) suits most people day to day. The bath sheet is 35 × 59 in / 90 × 150 cm — take it if you are tall, if you like being wrapped fully, or if you dry long hair. It needs a full-length rail to dry properly.
Will the border fade?The border is woven in, not printed or embroidered on top, so the pattern cannot rub or peel away. Wash warm with like colors and skip bleach, and the tones stay where they are.
How does the fringe hold up?Each end is knotted by hand, which locks the weave and keeps the edge from creeping open. Wash two or three pieces at a time so the strands do not tangle, and run them straight with your fingers while damp.
