Lightweight waffle weave

The making

Made slowly, in small batches.

The color

It belongs to the same family as unbleached linen, so it sits comfortably beside anything undyed.

Bought as a bundle it does what a single towel cannot: it fills a rail in one shade, and the bathroom stops looking like a collection of towels acquired at different times.

The waffle grid is what your hand registers first — firm ridges, soft recesses, texture with grip to it.

The weave

The grid is the whole point. Raised squares and shallow recesses give the cloth an open structure, so water spreads across a wide textured face and evaporates outward instead of settling deep in a pile. Less mass to saturate means a lighter towel on the rail, a shorter spin in the machine, and a cloth that is dry again by the time you need it. A stack of six takes up a fraction of the shelf terry would.

  • Open waffle weave, quick to dry, low-bulk
  • Fringe knotted by hand at both ends, no stitched hem

Frequently asked

Which set size should I buy?Two pieces per size covers one person with nothing spare. Four works for a couple. Six is what you want if you would rather not time your laundry around your shower — there is always a clean one on the rail.

Does it get softer over time?Yes, and quickly. The first wash takes the crispness out; by the fourth or fifth it has settled into its real hand. Skip fabric softener — it coats cotton and slows the drying this weave is built for.

Will the fringe hold up?The knots are tied by hand and stay tied. Individual strands loosen with washing, which is expected. If one pulls long, trim it flush rather than pulling it out.

The Difference is in the Cotton

Aegean cotton used in Calinea Turkish towels

The Origin

Why Turkish Aegean Cotton Towels Feel Unrivaled.

Grown along Türkiye's Aegean coast, Aegean cotton is prized for its long-staple fibers and naturally smooth hand — the same qualities that make Turkish cotton towels a benchmark for softness worldwide. For Calinea, this premium cotton is the foundation of every bath towel we make.

Long-staple Turkish Aegean cotton fibers

The Fiber

Long-Staple Cotton Fibers, Built to Last.

Long-staple cotton fibers spin into smoother, stronger yarns with less bulk than standard cotton — a cleaner weave and a silkier surface that holds up wash after wash.

The Feel

Highly Absorbent, Sustainably Grown Cotton.

Aegean cotton creates plush, highly absorbent bath towels without the heaviness of standard terry cloth — sustainably grown and finished without harsh chemicals.
