The making

Made slowly, in small batches.

The color

Wet, it darkens further and looks intentional rather than used; dry, it holds a cool, slate-leaning cast that flatters black fixtures and unpolished nickel.

Depth of color makes the velvety surface easier to see, so the pile reads dense in this tone.

On a hook beside a shower, it anchors that corner instead of blending out of it.

The weave

Combing long-staple cotton ahead of spinning strips out short fibers, leaving yarn that builds a tight, even pile — the reason the hand feels velvety instead of merely fluffy. Embroidery is worked directly into the border. Deeper shades take dye more heavily, so one wash on its own is worth the trouble; from there the towel simply keeps getting softer with every cycle.

Styling

Here is the color for a dark bathroom: charcoal grout, matte black taps, a mirror with no frame. Mineral travels well, too. Because deeper tones forgive mascara, self-tanner, and the general chaos of a gym bag, this is the pair to keep near the door rather than on display. Hang one bath towel against pale walls and the contrast does the styling for you.

Frequently asked

Should I wash it before first use?Yes, once, on its own. Deeper dyes release a little excess color during the opening cycle. A warm wash followed by a low tumble dry settles that and improves absorbency at the same time.

Does dark grey clash with white tile and bath mats?It reads as deliberate contrast rather than a mismatch. Mineral against white surfaces follows the same logic as a dark rug on pale floors: the room gains a floor and a ceiling.

Is it restocked often?Florence is woven in small batches, so a size or color occasionally sells through between runs. Buying both towels at once avoids waiting on the next batch if you want them matched.

Prefer something lighter? Compare Mist, Bare Blush and Alabaster.

The Difference is in the Cotton

Aegean cotton used in Calinea Turkish towels

The Origin

Why Turkish Aegean Cotton Towels Feel Unrivaled.

Grown along Türkiye's Aegean coast, Aegean cotton is prized for its long-staple fibers and naturally smooth hand — the same qualities that make Turkish cotton towels a benchmark for softness worldwide. For Calinea, this premium cotton is the foundation of every bath towel we make.

Long-staple Turkish Aegean cotton fibers

The Fiber

Long-Staple Cotton Fibers, Built to Last.

Long-staple cotton fibers spin into smoother, stronger yarns with less bulk than standard cotton — a cleaner weave and a silkier surface that holds up wash after wash.

The Feel

Highly Absorbent, Sustainably Grown Cotton.

Aegean cotton creates plush, highly absorbent bath towels without the heaviness of standard terry cloth — sustainably grown and finished without harsh chemicals.
